Wedding Trends.Trend Setting.

A NEW TWIST ON A GORGEOUS WEDDING CLASSIC

If you are currently planning a wedding there’s no doubt you’ve been exposed to more than just a few vintage inspired ideas. Whether it’s Pinterest or print mags that you’re scouring, vintage design details dominate. And you can’t fault those pinning and posting about all things vintage. It’s a beautiful design, with elements perfectly suited to a wedding. But if you consider yourself to be more of a modern kind of girl, you’ll likely think twice about running with this type of theme for your event, even if you’re loving all the pretty pictures. Well we’ve got some good news for you modern brides, by way of a new twist on a true classic.

In this year’s issue of the Weddingstar magazine we showcased a contemporary vintage look in our Pearls and Lace feature, blending all the intrinsically pretty details of vintage with some modern twists. We love eye candy so we’re thrilled to share some never before seen images, followed by an overview on how to make it yours. Enjoy!

Love It? Then make it yours! Here's how:

Key Design Notes to Bringing on the Contemporary Twist

  • The Venue. Forgo the expected historic sites and use a contemporary raw space. It stays true to the concept of aged vintage details while at the same time giving you a very modern industrial undertone.
  • Change up the Color Palette. Yes blush pinks and creams lend themselves beautifully to a vintage inspired theme, but so do a wide range of other colors. Selecting darker shades automatically transforms the ambiance of an event by giving it a touch of edginess.
  • Selective Use of Traditional Design Elements. The vintage look calls for layering, plenty of fabric on fabric. Think touches of lace everywhere! And while you certainly don’t want to do anyway with what’s at the heart of the vintage design, you can and should be selective on how and where you use the lace and layering concepts. Go for choice and unexpected uses, and for the rest of your look go for a cleaner, simplified and more modern approach.

DIY Wedding Reception Ideas

TREATING YOUR WEDDING GUESTS THE SHABBY CHIC WAY

They've attended the ceremony and enjoyed the cocktail hour. The bar has been set high for a great wedding reception. Start things off on the right note with a yummy treat, ready and waiting for your guests as they take their seats. Sure beats the traditional bread basket! Here's the how to on pulling this shabby chic themed treat together.

THE SUPPLIES

THE STEP BY STEP

  1. using the bag as your guide, measure out and cut your ribbon lengths, just so they slightly overlap in the back of your bag
  2. on the back side of the bag, glue the wider ribbon first
  3. glue the other ribbon on top of the first, for a layered effect
  4. glue on your button. Tip: off center button location works best
  5. add your stamp

And that's it! It's that easy! And personalizing the look is just as simple. Consider changing the type and colour of the ribbon, use a different bag or play around with your stamp options. Any of these simple adjustments will change up the look to suit your wedding style and theme to perfection.
